What to Bring When You Visit Your Accountant for EOFY 2026

Tax time is much easier when you're prepared. Bringing the right information to your appointment helps us complete your tax return efficiently, identify all eligible deductions and ensure nothing is missed.
To help you get the most value from your appointment, we've outlined the key information individuals and business owners should bring to their meeting.
For Individuals
Whether you're an employee, investor, retiree or property owner, please bring details of all income and relevant expenses for the financial year.
Income Information
Please provide details of all income received, including:
Details we can obtain from the ATO
Income Statements (formerly Payment Summaries)
Bank interest statements
Dividend statements
Trust distribution statements (after Sept/October)
Government payments, such as Centrelink benefits
Details you will need to provide
Rental property income records
Cryptocurrency transactions and investment income
Foreign income or overseas investments
Records of Tax Deductions
Bring records of any work-related or investment-related expenses, including:
Professional memberships and subscriptions
Uniforms and protective clothing
Tools and equipment
Motor vehicle and travel expenses
Self-education and training costs
Donations to registered charities
Income protection insurance premiums
Investment and property-related expenses
Don't worry if you're unsure whether something is deductible - bring the information along and we can advise you.
Working from Home Records
If you worked from home during the year, please advise:
A record of hours worked from home
Details of work-related equipment purchased, such as computers, monitors, desks or office chairs
Internet and phone expense records where applicable (noting that the safe harbour rules allow you to claim the hourly amount or direct phone/internet expenses, but not both)
Private Health Insurance and Superannuation
Please let us know if you:
Held private health insurance during the year
Made personal superannuation contributions
Received confirmation from your super fund for a Notice of Intent to Claim a Deduction
Rental Property Information
If you own an investment property, please provide:
Annual rental statements
Loan interest information
Council and water rates
Insurance expenses
Repairs and maintenance costs
Details of renovations or improvements
Depreciation schedules (if applicable)
Investment and Asset Sales
If you sold any assets during the year, please provide both the sale proceeds and purchase details for:
Shares
Managed funds
Investment properties
Other significant investments
These transactions may have capital gains tax implications, so it's important we have accurate records.
Changes to Your Circumstances
Please let us know if any of the following occurred during the year:
You changed jobs
Started a business or side hustle
Bought or sold property
Got married or separated
Had a child
Received an inheritance
Moved overseas or became an Australian tax resident
Started or stopped receiving government benefits
Even if you're unsure whether a change affects your tax return, it's worth mentioning it.
For Business Owners
If you operate a business, company, trust, partnership or self-managed investment activity, providing up-to-date financial information will help us prepare your tax obligations efficiently and identify planning opportunities. Ideally this will all be captured in your online accounting file.
Business Income and Financial Records
Please provide:
Details of any new business activities or income streams
Information regarding grants, government assistance or rebates received
Business Expenses
Please provide details of significant expenses incurred during the year, including:
Motor vehicle expenses
Equipment and asset purchases
Repairs and maintenance
Rent and occupancy costs
Interest and finance costs
Professional fees and subscriptions
Marketing and advertising expenditure
Employees and Superannuation
Please advise if:
You employed new staff during the year
You ceased employing staff
There were any changes to wages or contractor arrangements
Superannuation contributions have not yet been paid
You received correspondence from the ATO regarding payroll or superannuation obligations
Asset Purchases and Financing
Please provide details of:
Vehicles, machinery, equipment or technology acquired during the year
Assets sold, traded in or disposed of
New loans, refinancing arrangements or finance leases
Business Structure and Ownership Changes
Please let us know if:
New shareholders, partners or beneficiaries were introduced
Ownership interests changed
You commenced or ceased business activities
You purchased or sold a business
You established (or intend to establish) any new entities, trusts or companies
Property and Investment Activities
If your business owns property or investments, please provide details of:

Commercial property income and expenses
Investment holdings acquired or disposed of
Trust distributions received or paid
The right time to obtain advice
